Phosphate buffer has long been a popular mobile phase for LC with detectors such as UV.This is because of its low background due to the absence of UV light absorption and its buffering capacity over a wide range of wavelengths.
However, phosphate is nonvolatile and has the disadvantage of precipitating on MS ESI and APCI ion sources, clogging the capillary and contaminating the ion source, resulting in long-term background increases.
Furthermore, phosphates are easily ionized, which poses the challenge of suppressing ionization of the compounds to be analyzed.
Salinac Tube adsorb phosphate, thus solving these problems and enabling LC/MS measurements with phosphate buffer.
TFA (trifluoroacetic acid) is often used as a mobile phase for LC analysis of basic compounds in peptides and small molecules.
It is volatile and can be used for LC/MS, but it is very acidic and can cause ionization suppression of analytes.
Salinac Tube remove TFA, allowing LC/MS measurements with TFA.
In ESI ionization, the mass spectrum is complicated by the attachment of Na+ and K+ in the solvent to the analyte.
Therefore, a simple and easy-to-analyze mass spectrum with only H+ ions, without Na+ or K+ ions, is required.
Salinac Tube adsorb Na+ and K+ ions.
In addition, ions formed by the addition of Na+ or K+ are structurally stable and difficult to cleave by MS/MS CID, making MS/MS measurements difficult. Using a Salinac Tube , the H+-added ions can be concentrated into H+-added ions, making MS/MS measurements possible.
However, if the nature of the original target compound is such that Na+ or K+ is more easily added than H+, the Salinac Tube will not be effective, so please consult us in advance.
